Dives in Pianosa: Dive site #SP3
Depth: 4-40 meters
Difficulty: proportional to the sea depth the diver would like to reach; possible sea bottom currents with N-S direction.
The recreational dive starts near an extensive sub-vertical carbonate rock formation, which is characterized by alternate steps and small terraces.
The diver can decide to reach the bottom of the wall at 40 meters sea depth, then take either NE or SW direction, and at the end return to its top at 4 meters depth. During this route, which has a relevant scientific-teaching importance, the diver will have the great opportunity of observing different sciaphilous ( from the bottom of the wall up to 22 meters depth) and photophilous biocenoses (from a depth of 25 meters up to the sea surface).
While ascending to the top, at a depth of 18 meters, the diver can see considerable flowerings of PARAZOANTHUS AXINELLAE in the rock fissures.
One relevant characteristic of this site is the possibility offered to the diver of observing an unusual vertical wall, which is overgrown by P.OCEANICA.
