Dives on Elba: Shallow of Focacciola
Depth: 0-25 meters
Difficulty level: easy
Stream: light, almost absent
This rocky shoal, almost outcropping, is located just a few hundred meters from Gemini's islands.
We can see barely only few rocks that outcrop and we dive the maximum depth of 20-25m on the south side of the shoal.
The rocky walls are characterized by continuous ravines and special passages, where we can admire numerous dens of moray eels, octopus and eels.
Circumnavigating the shoal, in the deepest site we find a couple of very striking steps and small cavities, that require attention to be crossed.
In the westernmost part is easy to meet some nice grouper, while on the bottom, hidden among the Posidonie, we may encounter schools of Salpe.
This dive site owes its fame to the presence of the plaque commemorating Jacques Mayol, famous record-holder and freediver who has spent many years of his life on the Elba island.
