Scuba diving
SHALLOW OF FONZA
Depth: 3-40 meters
Difficulty level: medium
Stream: little
Visibility: good
Shallow of Fonza on Elba Island
One of the most beautiful and evocative dive sites of our coastline.
Shoal with a cap at 3 meters, the east side is characterized by a wall that descends vertically to the bottom for about 40 meters: the wall of coral formation with coral branches of about 5 centimetres is very fascinating to observe.
In every corner of the wall we meet moray eels (muraena Helena), conger eels (conger conger) and octopuses (octopus vulgaris).
Along the seabed, at the end of the wall, the scene is more interesting and colourful: the presence of large yellow sponge (Genus Axinella) and the meeting with crustaceans of substantial size makes this dive site full of life. Due to the currents which the shoal is exposed, life is very intense and the colours are much more pronounced, to the observant eye of divers and can not escape them the presence of several species of Nudibranchs (Flabelli affinis - Cratena peregrina - Hypselodoris coelestis).
In the southern side of the shoal, about 20 meters depth, there is a plateau where often live and hunt dentex (dentex dentex), barracuda (sphyraena sphyraena) and greater amberjack (seriola dumerili), given the considerable presence of oily fish. Always on the plateau find their habitat sea eagles that often accompanies the divers during the their diving.
The shallow part of the shoal reserve, due to water clearness, reserve to the divers exciting meetings with Octopus (octopus vulgaris), flocks of breams (chest, lace and more) (diplodus annularis).
